Battle for COPA Coca-Cola National Finals Begins

After all the provincial final slots were filled last weekend, the battle for this year’s COPA Coca-Cola national finals takes center stage this weekend with 8 teams in Central Province facing off at Makuyu Grounds.

Angaza Boys and VYSA Youth from Aberdares branch will clash against Nanyuki United and Thunder Birds from Mt. Kenya for the single men’s spot reserved for Central at the nationals which will be held in Nairobi. Last year’s national finalists, Maragwa Queens will battle alongside Cardinal FC in the ladies’ category which also has Karatina Queens and Male Team.

Angaza who topped the Aberdares branch with 12 points out of a possible 15 will take to the field first against VYSA Youth in a repeat of the group stage match up which they won.

Nanyuki United will go for three points against Thunder Birds who they already beat this season in their opening match. The second round will pit Angaza against Thunder Birds as Nanyuki take on VYSA. VYSA versus Thunder Birds and Angaza versus Nanyuki will conclude the boys’ event with the team with the most number of points proceeding to the national finals.

Maragwa Queens finished their group unbeaten and will battle Cardinal FC as Karatina take on Male Team in the ladies’ category. The games will be played on round robin format with all teams playing against each other. The team that tops their group in both the boys’ and the girls’ matches will earn a ticket to the national finals where they will represent Central region.

Last year, Maragwa Queens and Ruiru Neptunes held the region’s flag at the nationals but both performed poorly finishing last in their groups. Ruiru didn’t enter this year’s competition leaving Maragwa to defend their provincial title. The national finals will be held in August in Nairobi.

And That's thesteifmastertake!!
