2011-12 English Premier League Fixtures

As the summer transfer window gathers momentum, the FA has released the 2011-12 Premier League fixtures which kick off on Saturday 13 August 2011 and end on Sunday May 13 2012.

The first weekend of the matches will see champions Manchester United kick off their title defence with a visit to West Brom, while runners-up Chelsea will travel to Stoke City.

Liverpool new boy Jordan Henderson will face his former club Sunderland at Anfield (and so will Ngog if he signs for the Black Cats) on the same day which will see Manchester City welcome promoted side Swansea. The biggest matchup of the opening weekend will probably be at the White Hart Lane where Tottenham will welcome Everton, while Arsenal will face Newcastle United, a team they failed to beat last season.

Arsenal have arguably the toughest matches at the beginning. After facing Newcastle away, the Gunners will welcome Liverpool at the Emirates a week after before travelling to Old Trafford to battle with Manchester United on 27 August.

Tottenham’s ability to challenge for the title will also be tested during the early stages of the campaign. After the Everton match, they will travel to Manchester United and Man City on 20th and the 27th of August respectively.

Liverpool’s toughest challenge will come during the months of February and March 2012. They welcome Tottenham on February 4, make a trip to Old Trafford a week later before contesting the Merseyside derby with Everton at Anfield on February 25. Their tough campaign will culminate in a home match with Arsenal on March 3.

What this means is that they’ll have a fairly easy run in with only a home game against Chelsea (Fernando Torres’ return to Anfield on May 5th) in the penultimate game of the season breaking a run of games against teams like Sunderland, promoted side Queens Park Rangers, Wigan, Newcastle, Villa, Blackburn, Fulham, Norwich and their final game of the season against Swansea.

The Manchester derbies will be played first at Old Trafford on October 22 with the return leg at the City of Manchester on April 28 2012.
