9-Star Taqwa FC Start COPA 2013 Campaign on a High

2011 COPA Coca-Cola national finalists, Taqwa FC, announced their return to the tournament with an emphatic 9-1 thrashing of a hapless Ndamene Youth side as the U15 tournament entered its second week.

The Isiolo based side took the lead early in the first half through Fara Abdi Sala who also had a hand on the team’s second goal which came from Hamza Said just minutes later. Sala scored his second of the game just before the interval to put the game beyond Ndamene’s reach.

Trailing 3-0, Ndamene came out fired up for the second half and pulled a goal back but that’s as far as they got as Ramadhan Mohd’s stunning volley killed their slim hopes of getting back into the game. Salah added three more to make it 7-1 with quarter an hour to go. Goals from Abdijabar and Nurkey alias “Zabaleta” compounded Ndamene’s misery.

“We wanted to start on a high and that is exactly what happened and we are happy. We could have gotten more on the day but nine goals isn’t a bad result,” said the team’s head coach Martin Mutembei. Taqwa’s 9-1 win was the biggest on the weekend.

In other matches played at Isiolo Stadium, Mecesu Youth and Isiolo shared a 1-1 draw as Thimbili destroyed Nduluma 3-0. Ndamene’s day got worse as they lost 1-0 to Isiolo in spite of having the lion’s possession during the match. In the girls’ encounter, Fun Starlets and Kariene played to a barren draw.

Meanwhile in Nairobi West branch, talent academy side JMJ found it tough against Terokaya but still squeezed out a 1-0 win before they turned on the style in a 3-1 dismissal of French School in matches that were played at Nairobi University Grounds. Terokayo bounced back from their loss with a 1-0 win over More Fire who also lost their game against Vapour Academy 2-0. Vapour won their second match 1-0 against Young Talents

Beijing Girls battered Girls Soccer 5-0 while Amazing Grace and Uweza played to a 1-1 draw. Seven other branches activated their games over the weekend.
