Teams
from Kisumu were in a domineering form in COPA Coca-Cola Nyanza North Branch
matches as the county’s boys and girls teams won their matches in emphatic
fashion this past weekend.
Kisumu
United, Kisumu Lakers and the ladies team, Kisumu Queens, served the fans who
turned up at the Migori Stadium to a goal-fest and some jaw-dropping football
that swept opponents aside with relative ease.
United
were the first to take to the field against Muhoroni Youth who were resistant
during the early minutes of the first half until Levis Otieno breached their
rearguard in the 22nd minute with an easy tap in. The goal opened up the game as Muhoroni
searched for the equalizer but their forward forays proved costly when Dismas
Amunga completed a devastating counter-attack with a beautiful curled in effort
from just outside the penalty area at the half hour mark.
Amunga
scored his second in the 44th minute and completed his hat-trick
just two minutes later as he led his team to a convincing 4-0 win over
Muhoroni. The second match had even more goals as Kisumu Lakers drowned a
hapless Karapul FC outfit 6-0 with Elly Odhiambo and Eddy Ricky both hitting a
hat-trick.
What
the Kisumu boys could do, the girls proved they could also as Kisumu Queens
blanked Siaya Township 5-0, Mercy Akinyi also adding her name to the
individuals who scored a hat-trick on the day while Roda Ogogo and Melyne Awuor
notched a goal each.
The
goals just kept coming in the other matches of the day as Bondo Township
thrashed Siaya Youth 5-1 while Muhoroni Stars saved their faces with a 3-1 win
over Karapul FC.
Meanwhile
in Nairobi East Branch, Makadara Juniors shot to the top of the standings after
winning both their matches with an identical 1-0 scoreline against Indomitable
Dandora and Kamukunji Stars. Makamu United registered their first win of the
competition with a narrow 1-0 victory over MYSA but fell to the same scoreline
against Indomitable. MYSA Mathare ensured they left the second leg matches with
some pride after leaping past Kamukunji Stars 2-0 in their second match.
In
the girls’ encounters, St. Anne’s Girls mauled UEFA Babes 3-0 before nicking a
1-0 win over Golden Angels who also lost their second match 1-0.
Mombasa
Heroes did their name a world of good as they won both their matches, a 2-1 win
over Mswambweni Boys was followed by a 4-0 dismissal of Ukunda Youth. Mombasa
Stars also won both of their matches as Muthoka Maina and Abdulkarim Swabir
netted in their 2-1 win over Ukunda whose consolation goal came via Salim
Swaleh just before the interval. They won their second match against Kaloleni
Boys 1-0.
The
ladies’ team, Mombasa Queens, fired past Kaloleni Queens 4-0 with Elijah Khezia
grabbing a goal either side of Hassan Sauda and Munga Riziki’s goals. Kwale
Queens squeezed out a 1-0 win over Kaloleni with the only goal coming from
Violet Akoth early in the first match.
