Tusker FC Unveil New Faces ahead of Kenya Premier League Kickoff

Tusker FC’s bid to regain the Tusker Premier League title got a shot in the arm during the off season with the signing of several new players.

The 2012 Champions who surrendered their title to Gor Mahia last season were active during the long break capturing the signatures of 2012 KPL player of the year Kevin Kimani, last year’s defender of the year Brian Osumba and his now former KCB teammate Clifford Alwanga. Congolese-born Kenyan Bob Mugalia ended his 3-year stint with Sofapaka to try reinvent himself under coach Francis Kimanzi.

“I can’t complain of the quality of our new players. We are very lucky that we have one of the best squad selections in the league. This year, I believe that the quality players we have integrated into our team will put up a strong challenge in the Tusker Premier League.” said head coach, Francis Kimanzi during the unveiling of the new signings at their training grounds in Ruaraka.

Other players who joined the Tusker camp are Duncan Wafula from Busia United, Rodgers Omondi and Farouk Shikalo from Nationwide side Talanta.

Besides his new signings, Tusker will be relying on the predatory Jesse Were to continue his impressive form that saw him just miss out on the golden boot having found the back of the net 14 times last season.

“We always expect the best from Jesse. It’s a new season that has new coaches and new teammates around him. He also has a stronger midfield who have been working toprovide him better service,” added Kimanzi.

The ten time champions open their 2014 campaign with a trip to Thika United on Sunday before clashing with Western Stima and reigning champions Gor Mahia.

Tusker Brand Manager Antony Esyalai believes the team can make a mark this season by producing a credible performance in the league and qualifying for continental football.

“The brand’s support of Tusker FC fits very well within our strategy to develop talent and improve the standards of football in the region,” said Mr. Esyalai.

“We congratulate the club on their achievements and also encourage the players to continue flying the Tusker FC and Kenya flags high as they prepare for the new season. We urge all our fans to rally behind the team to reach new heights,” he added.
