Barca and Bayern Progress to Set an All Spain-Germany Champions League Semis

Champions League Semifinals Draw - who will face who?

Pedro Rodriguez ‘s goal helped Barcelona progress to the UEFA Champions League last four but it was little Argentine Lionel Messi who grabbed the headlines for the La-Liga champions elect as they drew 1-1 with Paris Saint Germain at Camp Nou.

With Barcelona trailing 1-0 to Paris Saint Germain and on the verge of crashing out, the ‘Messiah’ entered the fray from the bench on the 72nd minute, drawing a raucous applause from the home crowd. And it took less than 10 minutes for his full effect to be felt. The mercurial one easily shrugged off his markers before slipping the ball to David Villa who teed it for Pedro to hit one time past Salvatore Sirigu and draw Barca level.

And with the match tied at 1-1 on the night following Javier Pastore’s opener for the Parisians, Tito Vilanonva’s charges saw off the remaining minutes to advance on away goals following last week’s 2-2 stalemate in Paris.

This was the sixth successive time Barcelona have progressed to the last four, a Champions League record. The Catalans were joined by last year’s losing finalists Bayern Munich who left Turin with a 2-0 win over Juventus to advance 4-0 on aggregate. Mario Mandzukic opened the scoring for the Bavarians four minutes after the hour mark and Claudio Pizzaro ensured there was a repetition of the 2-0 scoreline in Germany last week with the second goal in the first minute of added time.

Spain's La Liga champions-elect Barca and Germany's Bundesliga champions Bayern join La Liga's number two Real Madrid and Bundesliga's number two Borussia Dortmund in the semis meaning it will be an all Spanish and German affair.

The draw for the semi finals will be conducted tomorrow, Friday, in Nyon, Switzerland. The road to Wembley just got closer!!

And That's thesteifmastertake!!
