Metropolitan side Upperhill are the 2013 Brookside KSSSA
games champions after they eased past Maseno School from the lakeside 58-40 in
boys’ basketball finals played at Mangu High school.
Upperhill, who replaced disqualified defending champions Laiser
Hill, led in all the quarters except the final one which they lost 15-13 to
Maseno. Joseph Ongoro top-scored for Upperhill with 22 points while Emmanuel
Rajula added 14.
Ongoro was named the best player for his exploits. This was
the second successive time that Maseno were losing in the finals after they
were beaten in last year’s finals by Laiser Hill. However, by virtue of having
reached the finals, the two finalists will represent Kenya in the East Africa
School Games slated for Uganda.
In girls’ basketball, coastal court giants Shimba Hills
defended their title with a 50-32 win over Nairobi’s Buru Buru.
Meanwhile Kakamega defended the boys’ rugby title after extinguishing
a hard-fighting St. Mary’s Yala side 18-3. The western rugby powerhouse scored
their points through Nelson Dangu and Dan Obwaji who touched down with a try
each with Edgar Khafu and Billy Isabwa converting successfully.
However, Levi Amunga won the best player’s award and was
represented with Beats by Dre headphones. Kangaru finished third after beating
Nakuru 20-0.
Obambo High School from Lakeside won the girls’ netball
title after beating Shimba Hills, who they lost to last year, 45-19.
