The Champions
That is the sound the Anfield sound system will be blaring
loud in front of the Koop for the first time in five years. Liverpool will be
making their comeback to Champions League football 1,742 days after they were
beaten by Fiorentina in their last appearance in the competition.
It has been a long wait for the five-time Champions League
winners. A time they have had to regroup, one they have had to change managers
in no more than three occasions, one they have seen a group of players come in
and leave. It has been a painful wait hence do not be surprised should you see
emotions run wild at Anfield.
The Reds will be among the 16 teams that will kick off this
season’s UEFA Champions League when they host Bulgarian side Ludogorets, their 120th
different European opponent. The two sides have never met at any level before
but Liverpool will be odds on to take the three points. The other match in the
group will see defending champions Real Madrid play host to Swiss side Basel
with Carlo Ancelotti’s side wobbling with a shaky form that has seen them win
only once in their last six matches in all competitions.
Last year’s runners-up Atletico Madrid will begin their
campaign with a trip to Greece to take on Olympiakos Piraeus as Juventus play
host to Malmo FF in Turin.
In Group C, German Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen will
travel to France to take on Monaco as Benfica host Zenit in Portugal. Turkish
side Galatasaray will play Anderlecht as Borussia Dortmund welcome Arsenal at
the Signal-Iduna Park.
And That's thesteifmastertake!!
