Former Kenya Premier League side, Kakamega Homeboyz, stormed
to the summit of the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League after
bossing hosts Modern Coast Rangers in Mombasa.
Homeboyz thumped Modern Coast 3-0 to extend their unbeaten
run to 13 games as they leapfrogged Zoo Kericho to the top of the log.
Keiphas Baraza scored twice in the 23rd and 42nd
minutes to give Kakamega a 2-0 lead at the interval. Dennis Mukaisi made it 3-0
to the visitors who left Mombasa Municipal Stadium with three goals and three
points.
The win saw Kakamega dislodge Zoo Kericho from the top of
the log. Kericho’s unbeaten home run came to a halt after they lost 1-2 to
visiting Kariobangi Sharks at Kericho Green Stadium. A first half goal from
former Gor Mahia man Ibrahim Kitawi and a second half strike from Erick Juma
gave Sharks the win, Nicholas Kipkirui netting the hosts’ consolation goal.
With Posta Rangers winning 1-0 away at St. Joseph, Zoo find
themselves on third spot. The top three are locked on the same 27 points after
13 match-days but Kakamega have a superior goal difference followed by Posta
with Zoo third.
Sharks win sees them fourth on the log. In other matches,
Nzoia United won 2-1 away to Nairobi Stima to keep themselves within touching
distance of the top three. Bottom side FC Talanta continued their wanting run
losing 2-0 at Bidco United while Nakumatt beat West Kenya Sugar 1-0 to go above
them into 7th.
Peter Chesoli netted a brace as Oserian edged Ligi Ndogo 3-2
in a five-goal thriller. John Mbogo scored the other goal while Ligi Ndogo
goals were scored by Hassan Abdalla and Yator Kimechwa. Finlays Horticulture
were held to a 1-1 draw by MOSCA FC.
